Case Study: From Dated Tub to Hotel-Style Shower in The Woodlands

Not every bathroom remodel starts with a fall, a diagnosis, or a worried phone call from a family member.

Sometimes the tub is perfectly fine. It's just tired.

That was the story for this homeowner in The Woodlands, just north of Houston. Nothing was broken and nothing felt unsafe. They simply wanted their bathroom to feel like a nice hotel.

The Before

A standard tub with a sliding glass door, a cream marble-look surround, chrome fixtures, and a plastic soap niche. Functional, clean, and very much the bathroom of a house built for resale, not for living in.

The Brief

Keep it simple: remove the tub, open up the space, and give it a luxury finish. No guesswork, no pressure, and no compromises on how it looks.

What We Built

A walk-in shower base. The tub came out entirely and a white solid surface base went in, with a low-profile entry and no tub wall to step over. The pan carries a wet DCOF rating of 0.80, so the floor is as grippy as it is clean-looking.

Large-format stone-look wall panels. A soft neutral with very few seams and no grout lines to scrub, so the walls look like a custom slab and stay that way.

Matte black fixtures. A rain showerhead and a handheld on a slide bar, which is the detail that makes the whole shower read as boutique hotel.

A fixed glass panel with a black frame. No sliding door, no track to clean, and a clear view straight into the shower.

Built-in ledge shelving. It replaces the old plastic niche with clean lines and room for everything.

The existing floor tile and layout stayed exactly as they were.

Luxury and Safety Turn Out to Be the Same Design

Here's what's funny about a hotel-style shower: nearly everything that makes it feel luxurious also makes it safer.

An open entry with no tub wall. A non-slip base. A handheld on a slide bar that works standing or seated. And behind the walls, grab-bar blocking built in as standard, so a bar can go exactly where it's needed later without opening anything back up.

This homeowner didn't ask for any of that. They asked for a beautiful shower. The accessibility came along with it, quietly, and it'll still be there in twenty years. That's the idea behind what we do: Luxury You Want. Safety You Need.

Why Upgrade Before You Have To

The best time to make a bathroom work for the long run is while you're simply enjoying the upgrade. Waiting for a reason usually means making the decision under pressure. Doing it because you want a nicer shower means getting to pick every finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a tub-to-shower conversion only for people with mobility concerns? No. Plenty of homeowners do it purely for the look and the daily experience, and get the safety benefits as a bonus.

Can I keep my existing bathroom floor? Often, yes. In this project the original floor tile and layout stayed in place while the tub was replaced with a walk-in shower.

How long does installation take? Most standard conversions are completed in about two days from tub removal to a finished, working shower.
