We're a NAHB Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) — trained specifically to design and build bathrooms that keep people safe and independent at home.
Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS)
CAPS is a credential issued by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). It's earned through coursework in the technical, business, and human sides of building for older adults and people with disabilities — not a badge a contractor can just buy.
The training that goes into CAPS covers four areas:
Universal design principles
How to design entries, clearances, and layouts that work for every body, at every age — not just retrofits bolted on after the fact.
Fall-risk reduction
Where falls actually happen in a bathroom, and how curb heights, flooring, grab-bar blocking, and fixture placement change the odds.
Technical & building-code knowledge
ADA and building-code standards for clearances, thresholds, and reinforcement, applied correctly to a real Texas home, not a generic checklist.
Working with clients on the aging journey
How to have a clear-eyed conversation with a homeowner or their family about needs today and needs five years from now, without making the bathroom feel clinical.
Why This Matters for Your Bathroom
The bathroom is where most falls in the home happen — wet floors, tub thresholds to step over, nothing solid to grab on the way down. A CAPS credential means we're trained to see those risks before we design around them, instead of reacting to them after a fall has already happened.
What that looks like in your project
- Grab-bar placement and wall blocking are planned around how you actually move through the shower, not just bolted wherever a stud happens to be.
- Curbless entries and comfort-height fixtures are the default layout we design toward, not an upsell you have to ask for.
- Slip-resistant surfaces and lighting are chosen with fall risk in mind, alongside how the finished room looks.
- We plan for where you are today and where mobility needs may head next, so the room still works in five or ten years.
